This is a larger than usual postcard of President George Washington in his Freemason regalia
(The pen in the final photo indicates the scale of the card.)
Washington is one of 14 U.S. presidents who were Freemasons.
he was initiated at the lodge at Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 1752.
He was commander in chief of the American forces in the War of Independence 1775 to 1797, and served as president from 1789 to 1797.
The portrait featured on the card was painted by Robert Gordon Hardie after the portrait by Gilbert Stuart.
It was presented to the Grand Lodge of England in 1900 by Harry Wellcome, the pharmacist and philanthropist.
