Description

Up for bid is a wonderful vintage patriotic Memorial Day postcard. This card honors the "Children Of Veterans" as printed in Latin at the top of the card. It features a colorful lithographic illustration of American flags crossed behind a medal with an eagle with its wings spread wide. When you supersize image 1 you will see the wonderful detail on this card. The colors are very vivid and the artistry is just great! Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. SOURCE: Memorial Day History web site This beautifully embossed card has been postally used and has a cancellation with no year date across the one-cent stamp on its divided back. Here is a wonderful vintage card that is ready for framing, or to add to your Patriotic or Memorial Day postcard collection. Better bid now, before another collector takes it away forever.
