Unc Details
This original roll coin looks MS63FBL to us, and we never expected a details grade. The reverse toning is simply mottled. FVI Bugs Bunny C-1a is the strongest of several die clashes known for 1953-D. It shows two long, cylindrical spikes coming from Franklin's nose, as well as a point on the upper lip. The die line, connecting the dot above PL to the bell pole, is a diagnostic of this die pair. A pleasing, razor sharp, affordable example! PCGS price guide is 0 in MS63FBL, and 0 in MS60FBL.
The Franklin Variety Index, a free variety guide to Franklin half dollars, is the result of a 10-year research initiative by DM Rare Coins. The guide is being released in stages, beginning in December of 2020. Coins attributed to the FVI will be accompanied by a certificate of attribution.
